Melissa is making a "Going Places" quilt for her son. Bee members are making blocks of transportation in the air, on land and at sea. I was on holidays when people chose their 'vehicles' and when I got back, the firetruck was mine!
Since the blocks are massive at 16.5", I had to adapt a smaller 6" foundation pattern from a photograph posted in our flickr pool. Unfortunately, to maintain the proportions there ended up being a ton of white space, but hey, more room for creative quilting!
I'm pretty happy about the driver, and also the lined paper print that I used for the hose. I love it when you can find just the right piece of fabric in your stash to take a block up a notch. BAM! This quilt will be a lot of fun for her little guy.
Against my better judgement, I'm going to tell you about the most ridiculous giveaway. Alex has given Lynne a truckload of Aurifil thread to share. So much that it even comes in it's own suitcase! Quick - right after you leave a flattering comment on my adorable fire truck block, head over there and enter the giveaway in her super fun Christmas Gifts for Quilters series!

Without a doubt the most awesomest paper pieced fire truck I have EVER seen! The fabrics are genius - the perfect fire truck red, the hose fabric, the fire truck dog for the front seat and the awesome wheels - you rock!! That is one lucky little boy. Okay I am off to win some of that aurifil thread 'casue we know I need more thread ;P
What an absolutely fabulous block! You are so clever- to enlarge the pattern/picture, to find the perfect fabric and the skill to execute it so wonderfully! Melissa will LOVE it and her little guy will have it to treasure too!
What a stupendous fire truck! You rock & he will love it! The driver is so cute & I love that the bone fabric made perfect tires. Very clever!

Brilliant, Krista! Melissa's kid is going to be the luckiest boy in the world!
accccckkkk, that driver is the best !!! What a great block.
very cute firetruck! my now 17-year-old son was crazy for firetrucks in his toddler years and he would have loved a block like this.
dog-gone cute block! Your recipients are always so lucky!!
There's a postman with a fire engine block somewhere, looking very smug if the first was as cool as this!!
That is a cute block- a lot of thought in fabric choice too!
That is the just cutest fireman. Way to find him in your stash! Darn that Canada Post... What is up with that company?
Awww! Absolute perfection Krista!
You have such a creative mind; your bee partners are very lucky.
The CPTZ is the bane of my existence! I am always in "waiting for something to arrive" mode it seems.Drat!
Love the dalmation driving! This is so adorable, you've done a remarkable job.

Just sooooo sweet!
What an amazing block, Krista! I absolutely love your attention to all the little details, the dalmatian driver, the firehose, the embroidery, the double layer wheels. It all adds up to a block that will make a little boy very happy!
It's just precious Krista! I had the same problem with my block. I made a cruise ship that looks more like a tug boat with the proportions of the block. Aw well...
I love it! Love, love the dalmatian in the front! This is going to be a nice quilt.
Yeah for having blog posts email to me! :) LOVE the fire truck! So fun!
my son's mouth fell open when he saw this--I'd say AWESOME sums it up!
Love this so much!
Well done!! Nice fabric choices for the piecing.
Very cute...I have a little guy who is currently fascinated with firetrucks...and of course older guy(s) who are still fascinated with fire trucks! Well done!!!!
I love the driver.
well done. I like the fabric you used to give the ladder some texture.
What a cute firetruck. I've never paper pieced, but, I can imagine it was difficult to make at that size. Really cute.
I love how your red fabric already has kind of battered metallic texture in it. Such a great block.
So creative! You have MAD skills girl!
I love the driver! Such a cute little truck, I love it!
This one's a winner! Love the fussy-cut dalmatian, too!
