Upcycled Jean Skirt Sewing Command Center

Allow me to introduce the latest in hip sewing machine fashion:

Denim Sewing Control Centre!

It's the Upcycled Jean Skirt Sewing Command Center! I've written a ridiculously long-winded tutorial describing how I made this amazingly useful item from an old skirt and you can read the whole thing (if you don't nod off first) over at the incredibly inspiring corner of blogland inhabited by Michele at Michele Made Me.

It's Drop Dead Denim month! An entire month of fabulous tutorials and links to all things groovy and denim. Please visit and add Michele to your regular reading list. She is my recycling guru and writer of hilarious, yet insightful posts on all things crafty. It is my absolute pleasure to guest post on her blog!

Krista, this is so cute! I'm going to go to Value Village today and pick up an old denim skirt to make one of these!

Congratulations, this is so fun! It’s even looking more wonderful with your Featherweight on top! I think I need to use an old skirt of Mr DC to make this Sewing Command Center! It’s on my never-ending list of projects now!

Oh I love the title 'Command Centre' - sounds so important and even has a place to put your compass and x-ray specs - brilliant x

That's just brilliant! I'd like to have that hang off the side of my island in the kitchen... pens, scissors, all such things are always rolling around cuz the pen cup is too far away (yes, we are *that* lazy). This is a great idea!

Love it! Just love it and looks like something that I'm sure my 10 year old 4H'er would love to make for her sewing machine!

You are too clever! No one else would think about turning a jean skirt into a sewing pocket, Krista! I especially love the bindings!

This is brilliant. Truly. I Love it! Now, how long do you think it will take me to find a pink denim skirt at the thrifts... :)

This IS brilliant. I showed this to the sewing joy of my life, my green Featherweight, Bonnie, and she will be pouting until I make her one. Um, thanks...!

Great idea, I love it! I don't have a jean skirt, but do have many blue jeans and some jumpers I grabbed from the thrift store. I'm sure I can make it work. Thank you so much!
