241 take 2

The 241 bag is a fabulous purse to carry and a relatively quick make when it comes to bags! Anna's patterns are easy to follow and her photographs illustrate each step clearly, so I always enjoy making something she's designed.

I adore my side-pocket 241 version made last year with Outside Oslo (which, by the way, I just removed from the washing machine after a much-needed clean and it looks fabulous again!).  My traditional guild asked me if I would teach a bag workshop and this was the first pattern than came to mind. I wanted to have a sample of both options because I'll offer either one for students in the workshop.

241 Bag - slash zipper option

{NOTE to potential workshop teachers: Anna generously gave me permission to teach the workshop and each student will purchase their own copy of the .pdf pattern - if you plan to teach someone else's design, this is how you should do it. First ask the designer's permission and secondly, make sure each student purchases their own copy of the pattern, magazine or book. Making xerox copies of a copyrighted pattern designed by someone other than yourself to hand out at workshops is a big no-no,  not to mention totally uncool.}

Learning how to prepare the fabrics and install a slash zipper is a great skill for any sewist to have in their toolbox. I've used this style of zipper in the lining of many bags I've made - it's a great clean look.  I love lining the pockets with a fun, colourful print.

241 Bag - slash zipper option

This bag features the popular feather print from Martha Negley for Westminster Fabrics (which comes in several amazing colours) purchased at Island Quilter and a soft grey chambray. The lining is a tiny grey/grey check from Basics for Adornit. I can't remember where I bought it, but I got several yards to have on hand as a neutral that wasn't just flat grey.

Oh fun! I love that feather print. After making the tote bag tester for Nikki, I've kind of been bitten by the bag bug and was eyeing Anna's own version of this with the sequinned fabric. When's your workshop? Are non-members allowed?

I think I bought that feather fabric in each colorway--it is SO fabulous! I have Anna's pattern too, so this might be just the thing--fabulous fabric with great pattern!

Very cool colour combo - I love the turquoise zippers.
I have this pattern too and really love the way it turned out. I made it for a friend for Christmas last year. It will be a while before I can go anywhere with a handbag this small again. :(
