I heart linen, too

Thank you for your well wishes - I made it on retreat!! I'll have posts for you in the days to come and show you a little of our island paradise where we stitched the hours away for 4 lovely days. I am feeling much better (albeit a little tired from all that sewing and staying up late!).

To kick things off, here's a sweet apron I made for myself. Yes, for ME! I am not really an apron girl, and this so doesn't go with my red kitchen, but I just love it, so I will use it. I had all of these fabrics along with me as my plan was to use them in a new quilt for our bed. On day 1, I still wasn't up to starting a massive quilt project. Instead, I decided to audition all of the prints with the Essex linen (in Putty) as a background to see if I'd like them together in the quilt.

Our hostess with the mostess, RJ, had Rashida's I Heart Linen book on her coffee table and after flipping through all of the sweet projects, I decided that I needed that apron. I would make that apron. Then I did.

It was very easy and fun to make. The only tiny thing that I did extra was to topstitch the seam around the edge of the apron skirt. I didn't want to have to re-set that turned seam between the outer skirt and lining with an iron after every washing.

Oh, and the verdict on the prints + the linen? Two thumbs up. I started the quilt the next day.

More retreat photos coming soon, I promise.

Gorgeous apron! And I'm a new convert to linen too...just using it in my first project for DQS10. Can't wait to see photos of the quilt you're making.

Don't cook. Don't like aprons. However, that is very cute. She could merengue and do the salsa...

I am working on aprons with my girlfriend as a "learn to sew" project....not something I normally use, but I confess they are fun! Love your colors here, can't wait to see your quilt.
