Vancouverites are lucky to have 3 'local' mountains that are developed for recreation: Seymour, Grouse and Cypress. If you were following the 2010 Olympics, then you would have seen Cypress for the snowboarding, moguls and freestyle skiing events. There are many more undeveloped peaks, but these three offer alpine skiing, snowshoeing and two of them have commercial tubing operations and cross country ski trails.
Over the holidays I headed up to a favourite trail on Mt. Seymour to take in this glorious view.
This is looking north west, across the north shore to the other mountains, Grouse and Cypress.
This is our city. I heart Vancouver. The green 'island' in the middle is Stanley Park, linked to the north shore by the Lions Gate Bridge. I hope the crews on all of those tankers got someone to cook them a turkey dinner!
This is the wonderland component.
My smiley mug. What can I say...I'm not much of a hat girl.
I have yet to ski, but hopefully I'll get up onto the runs soon - the weatherman is expecting snow this week (which means anything could happen)! Fingers crossed for the white stuff!

Spectacular vista! I lived in Vancouver for almost two years while I did a postdoc at UBC. We moved there in December 1996, two days before a massive snowfall - the movers laughed at us for bringing our snow shovel from Ontario. "You can't shovel rain!" But as it happened we had plenty use for our snow shovel before we had even unpacked, and our neighbour borrowed it and broke it! There is no place as beautiful as BC!
Gorgeous! I've yet to get up snowshoeing but want to give it a try sometime (perhaps when I'm not pregnant? ;) ).
My hubby has done it all, snowboarding, snow shoeing, skiing, X-country Skiing.... he even made his own snowshoes with his Scout troop last year. And me? I've lived in Utah, with the "greatest snow on earth" for 27 years and have done none of it. But that second to last pic makes me want to give up everything and move to a cabin in the woods where we get snowed in from October to May every single year. You know, as long as I had a sewing machine.... These pics are GORGEOUS!
Krista, thank you for sharing these spectacular views! Great!
Sooo pretty; some of the pictures reminds me of my home town (and host of 1994 winter Olympics) Lillehammer.
I think you look great with a hat.-)
Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful photos. I love Vancouver too....I'm still a coast girl at heart.
Me neither with the hats or with glasses or high heels or dresses. In jeans and an old jumper, I look pretty feminine but if I add a hat, glasses, high heels, a dress or too much make up, I look like a transvestite.
You are rocking that hat! And love the photos - definitely one of the most beautiful places on Earth.
Gotta get those snowshoes out!
Beautiful! And look at you, so sporty!
Wow!! It's beautiful in your neck of the woods. Love the photos
Gosh, it really is beautiful there! I don't wear hats well. I got Mark some snowshoes for Christmas! He was able to try them out the following day but then the snow all melted.
Don't we just live in a great place! I am hoping for a snow day this coming week! I think we will be in luck!
Take my breath away... Stunning photos Krista! One day, mark my words, I will visit that end of our great country. I have to see that for myself.
Stunning photos Krista! The only time I feel pangs of regret that snow and I are not friends is when I see those kinds of pictures of our local beauty. Beautiful! And speaking of which that is a great shot of you. Yay more Beauty!!!
You should see me in hats. I only look good in a baseball cap...go figure. I love all the photos.
You are a sweetie pie!
Micki
hey - new header font! did you think you could just sneak that in? love the city shot. i heart Vancouver too.
Oh what memories. My sister, my mom and I trekked up Seymour before an Alaskan cruise 2 yrs before my mom passed. Those views look awfully familiar altho' we went in summer. I love your MEC product placement. I tell my nieces and nephew in the states, that in Canada we spell REI...MEC (yeah, they don't get it either). I just dropped a chunk of change at MEC this afternoon as I dropped one son of on his way back to semester II at school. Thanks for the pics
you are one gorgeous lady! :)
