I had the pleasure of a quick visit with my friend Leanne yesterday on beautiful Granville Island, where she treated me to a birthday lunch. We'd spoken a couple of months ago and made arrangements for me to make her a 241 Tote. Her visit in person was a great kick in the pants to get it done for her. I will never tire of making these great bags. Finding just the right fabric combinations is so much fun (fabric details are on flickr in the photo descriptions).
This time, I completely lucked out while shopping my zipper stash - I had a perfectly coordinating spotted zip from Daiso.
After lunch we speed-shopped at The Cloth Shop, where I've been dying to see the Cotton and Steel fabrics in person. They have the entire line, including linens and lawns! I was very selective and only bought a few fat quarters and two half meters. I had my eye on the blue with diagonal silver metallic dots to stash for a binding one day and I adore Melody Miller's mustangs, so I splurged on a hunk of those as well.
I'm finally down to business on a new quilt and free pattern that you will all see next month (so exciting!). Apparently all I needed to boost my creativity was install a fresh rotary blade. Wow, why do I always wait so long to do that? Cutting through 6 layers of fabric like butter is just SO GOOD!

Thanks for the reminder about the new blade! Watch those fingers though! I have just used the great feather fabric ( in green) for a project! It's a great print, isn't it?!
Is ther a Canadian or US source for Daiso zippers? I tried a Google search with no luck. Love the polka dots! Thanks, Barb
I love my bag, it's more beautiful in person. And I too cheap out on the blade changes, I'm going to change mine too. I am looking forward to seeing your new pattern.
Those blades! So hard to part with! Why do we do that to ourselves?
Great bag!!
I just changed my blade the other day. Oh! I wish I'd done it at the START of making this quilt - it makes trimming so much easier! Nice to know we're all the same eejits! Love that bag (the zip! Swoon) and I too have stashed Mustangs and metallic dots for binding!
Your bag is beautiful! Could you please post a link to Daiso zippers? I love the dots, they go perfectly with the bag!
Love the bag and your scrummy purchases!
haha! I had to chuckle about the blade. I do that too, and everytime I change it I wonder why I waited so long!
Love those bags, I think I might have to get that pattern.
Yay for sharp new blades!!! And sharp seam rippers too, haha!!
I didn't get to meet you when you came to Victoria to do the 241 bag workshop :(
But since then I've finished two of them. And last night I pulled more fabric for two more. I'm using a home dec weight so I'm wondering if I really need to use interfacing.....?
I really love your feather print in your latest bag, super cute!
Lovely fabric choices for the tote
I know Leanne loves this bag, but who wouldn't.?
So for the strap it looks like you've used one rectangle ring and one slider??
