That someone could be YOU! All you have to do is leave a comment below and let me know if you've ever been on a quilting retreat before, if you'd love to attend one in the future, or if you dream of organizing a retreat in your own community!
I've written an article for this edition of Canada's very own Quilter's Connection magazine, sharing my tips and advice for organizing a day retreat. There are other fantastic articles on packing and preparing for retreats, a story about the Fibre Art Network's latest retreat by fellow VMQG member Terry Aske, an exclusive interview with Ricky Tims, some cute quilt patterns and lots more.
The article is a bit of a teaser for a project I'm working on for the new year. My plan is to self publish an e-book. It will be a manual for people interested in starting a day retreat business like I've run here for the past 9 years. I can't wait to share all of my experience with others who would like to start up an exciting small business based on their passion for quilting and bringing creative people together. I receive regular requests for retreat advice and always do my best to share information. I finally decided that writing everything down and putting it all together in one manual would be the most efficient way to share. I look forward to doing just that!
In the meantime, enter the giveaway and on Sunday night I'll chose a winner! Double your chances by leaving a comment on my Instagram photo of the magazine cover. There will be two winners - one from the blog and another on IG where you can find me as @poppyprint.
Happy Weekend!
ETA: The giveaway is now closed and the random number generator chose comment #39, Nessa, as the winner! Congratulations! Please email me your address so I can get the magazine in the mail to you!

I'd like to win, and congratulations on the article. I am going to have to look for the instagram photo too.
Congrat's on your article! I would love to win. I have been lucky enough to attend a couple local quilt retreats and always have so much fun~ and get so much done! It is amazing what I can accomplish without having to cook, answer the phone, door etc. ;-)
Yes, I have been on a few retreats and have loved every moment of them. Lots of sewing to all hours, lots of laughs with good friends and having one's meals cooked and someone else to do the cleaning up is a bonus.
Sadly, I've never been on a retreat. My kids are too little and we don't have the disposable income to let me go.
I hear pretty amazing things about your Loon Lake retreat, so I dream that *maybe* I'll get to go one day.
Congratulations on being published!
Congrats on being published.
Retreats are so relaxing.
I'm super duper excited for my first overnight quilting retreat in May! Thank you for using your retreat expertise to organize the Vancouver MQG's first retreat!
Congrats on the article! The ebook sounds like a fantastic idea and I'm sure it will be helpful to many!
I've never been on a retreat but I'd certainly like to one day!
I've been on a retreat every year since my quilting guild starting having them 19 years ago. The only ones I have missed are the three years I was feeding my babies! I'm all booked in for next year's one! Thanks for the lovely giveaway.
Fantastic idea (the book, although the giveaway too). I would LOVE to do a retreat, if there was one near me. Or if I won lotto I'd come to one of yours. As for running one of my own, I couldn't see me finding the time for another 10 yrs or so to manage something like that (unless I got a nanny). I could definitely see me doing it though - I'm super good at organising stuff and quite enjoy it, so it'd be great.
Good luck with it all!
I have never been in a retreat, hoping to in the future, sounds like heaven!!
One informal retreat... Mom, my friend, and her mom. Was lovely. Will do again when kids are bigger. :). Love magazines! Congrats!
Congrats on the article! I've been to the FQR, which was great. Just met two friends for a weekend of sewing and chatting a few weeks ago. It is so great! The thought to organize a retreat for people I don't know - intimidating!
Yes to all of the above!
I have read magazines from the US, from Australia, from New Zealand, from France, from UK, from Sweden and Denmark, but never a Canadian, so this would be a treat!
Yay for you in print!! Yes, I have been to a sewing retreat (and also scrapbooking). I met YOU at a retreat - how cool is that!!!
Never had the opportunity, but would love to go someday. Guess it's a bucket list thing
Congratulations! I'd love to win a copy!
I've never been on a retreat but I'd love to!
Congrats on the article. I have never been to a quilting retreat but it sounds like the perfect break of friends, fabric and fun.

Thanks for the chance to win Krista. I have never been to a retreat (sigh), would love to attend one and wouldn't dream of organizing one until I've been. Congrats on all your accomplishments, I really enjoy your blog as a fellow Canadian. Again thanks for sharing and the chance to win!
This article sounds fascinating! I'd love to go on a retreat some time but I'd be afraid I'd forget something major (like my fabric) and end up just sitting and watching. Still fun but not as fun.
I have attended 1 retreat & have signed up (paid in full) to attend another next year.
I haven't attended an official retreat, but I do quilt every Tuesday with a group of ladies at a local church. We spend 5 hours there, quilting, chatting, and learning from each other. Our mini retreat, really. I can accomplish much more at home, but I really appreciate everyone's feedback and knowledge.
Ooh, fab job on the article, and hope the e-book goes well! I only attended my first proper retreat in October when I taught in the Alps (as I'm not really counting FQR or SS as a retreat so much as a mass party lol)
Great idea for an ebook on organising a retreat. I've been to both FQR's and can't wait to attend the next one! ( you were staying in the same hotel as me!. Well done on the article as well
Going to my first retreat on Thursday. I hope it will be the first of many.
I have NEVER been on a retreat. One day I hope
Never been to a retreat, kids are young, but maybe when they are older I'll be able to carve out some time and money.
Congratulations on your article! I have never been on a retreat, but would love to do it sometime.
I went on my first retreat last winter and it was great! Can't wait to go again! Thanks for the giveaway.
Hi Krista:
Yes, I've been to four retreats, the last two organized by me. You e-book sounds great, you must have lots of great advice to share.
Congratulations on having your article published. I've never been to a retreat, maybe someday =)
Thank you for the chance.
I can't wait until my kids are a little older so I can go on retreats. I've often dreamed about buying an old store here in town and hosting sewing days. Can't wait for your book to come out. Thanks for the chance.
I've never been toma retreat, but if I was going to organize one, this would be the perfect place for it:

I have been on numerous quilt retreats and Loved them all!
I'd love to read your tips on organizing a retreat. We'll soon be planning our second one for February! Yea!
Congrats on the article and all the best with your ebook.
Congratulations on your article. No I have never been on a retreat.

Count me in! N
Brilliant idea! I've always wanted to go to a sleep over retreat and love the idea of being involved in organising one.
Oooh congratulations! My only Retreats have been the big FQly ones - would love to go on a smaller one too xxx
Would love to get away and play, with no distractions.
Congratulations on being published. It is so fun seeing your name in print. Hope you have some photos of the retreat.
I've been to several retreats and love the creativity that sparks amongst the participants.
I've gone to one that were organized as classes and others that were UFO themed. Both had their advantages. It is interesting seeing the same project in different colour ways and getting suggestions on something that is uniquely your own.
Thanks for a chance to win!
Congrats on being in the magazine. I went to the Fat Quarterly Retreat in London this year and it was FAB-U-LOUS. I would love to win this magazine, I really enjoy checking out stuff from overseas to see if its similar or different.
Thanks for hosting this giveaway :)
I love retreats. I have done everything from four hour sew ins to long weekend retreats. They are wonderful.
Congratulations! I have been on a day retreat organised by my local quilt shop. It was great because it combined visiting a quikt exhibition, a workshop involving quilting and Raku ceramics and of course a lot of socializing.
My girlfriend, her sister and I rented a quilter's retreat farmhouse for a weekend last year and we loved it! We were able to complete and/or start projects, admire the quilts that were in the house and peruse the many quilting magazines for inspiration.
I would love to win a copy of the magazine and read your article. Thanks for the chance to win!
So that's the big project - great idea! And you know most of the retreats I've been on - yours, LGQG, WVQG and a couple put on by quilt shops. Yours are the best!
I've never been on a quilt retreat but would love to. I went on a few scrapbooking retreats and got so much out of them. Definitely on my 2014 to do list.
Congratulations on your article! I've been to a couple of retreats and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Didn't get much quilting done but was totally inspired!
I've never been on a quilting retreat. I'd like to, but my introverted nature keeps me from pursuing it too seriously!
Good luck on the ebook!
I have been going to a quilt retreat for many years. We go in November and start on Monday and end on Thursday. Sometimes I take a class but most times, I sew on my own and have fun!
How exciting to have an article featured in a magazine!
I've been doing 2 sewing retreats a year for the last 4 years and love them! everyone gets so much done, there's inspiration buzzing around and lots of fun to be had!
Thanks for the giveaway
I have not been to a retreat and dream of attending one. A whole weekend of quilting with no distractions of housework. Oh bliss!
Thanks for the chance to check out that mag.
I have been to many retreats...love them and I actually get a lot done..besides talking, eating and shopping!
Other than a guild retreat yours are the only one's I've been to so I am TOTALLY spoiled :0)
Congrats on having another article published!
Yes, but only one but would love to do it again! Thanks for the chance to win!
What a great idea, Krista. I've only been to one retreat and that's the one I was teaching at recently.
