End of an Elementary Era

Well, that's it folks. My second child is officially off to high school in the fall. I'm sure there are many other mothers out there who feel the same sense of pride and mild horror that their 13 year old daughters will be sharing the same hallways with 18 year old boys in September. I have two months in which to come to terms.

Both my kids were born in the first week of January.  By the time we've made it through Christmas and New Year's, everyone is almost too pooped to party, so we usually keep birthdays low key and celebrate the end of the school year in June with a gift and some summer spending money.  Although this was originally intended for last year's gift, I happily presented it to D last week (and she was none the wiser that the pillow front had been sitting folded on my sewing table for over a year).  There wasn't much chance of her ever finding it....trust me, it was well buried under several other WIPs.

Tour d'Eiffel Pillow Deux

This is the second 20" Eiffel Tower pillow I've embroidered and quilted. In fact, the original was one of the very first projects I shared on Poppyprint almost 3 years ago!

I love that there were a set of matching buttons in my Great Aunt Pearl's button box for the back closure.

What's almost as sweet is that D took it to a sleepover on Friday night to show her girlfriends.  She hearts La Tour d'Eiffel.

Her pillow is a little softer.

great pillow, no matter when it is finished. it feels like yesterday I was walking my kid to kindergarten and last week, he walked across the stage to get his high school diploma!

Enjoy it all - before you know it she'll be graduating, post secondary done, moving out and then in a blink of an eye married, and making you a grandmother! What a fabulous pillow and such great memories it holds for her.

What a great pillow for a fan of the Eiffel Tower! I can't quite imagine having two high schoolers, having a kindergartener is enough for me at this point!

Love the pillow! It seems like just yesterday I was worried about my son out on the playground for recess in kindergarten, now he's just graduated high school. Where does the time go?

I'm with Holly - still coping with the idea of Kindergarten! Gorgeous pillow and a great idea to do up the partying in June vs. January!

What a lovely pillow for your daughter.
My birthday is just 2 days after Christmas and I always celebrate in June, for the same reasons.

My D was born on 12/31 so when she was young we always celebrated her 1/2 birthday at the end of June. When parents send their kid to a new years eve birthday they often don't want them back until well into the following day!!
The pillow is adorable. Outshone only by your very lovely soon to be 8th grader!!

She's such a cutie!

Great idea to celebrate the half-birthday instead. Things are so much saner that way!

I love reading that other quilters have many unfinished projects! It makes me feel like I might possible be normal! The pillow will truly be a treasure for your daughter. First, because you made it and secondly, you picked a subject that is dear to her heart! Great job. Both of my boys are men now and if I could go back and change anything I did, it would be to hug more often and spend more time with them. Of course, that's not easy when they're are teenagers :)
