Taking Flight

Do you guys know Flight of the Conchords? My son introduced me to this wacky duo a couple of years ago when he asked for their DVD for his birthday. Jemaine and Bret are two Kiwi folk musicians trying to make it in New York (the show is mockumentory-style), but they are fantastically funny and talented musicians in real life as well. In fact, in real life, Bret won an oscar for writing the Muppet Movie theme song (this tidbit will make a scene in the video a little funnier).

Anyway, a friend asked me today if I'd seen Feel Inside (and other stuff) yet. I just watched it twice and I think you should, too. It's a real life fundraiser for sick children in New Zealand and even though I am not familiar with the other Kiwi artists featured, I know I'll watch this over and over. It's that entertaining!

I've actually been doing a bit of sewing in the midst of massive upheaval in our house, so I'll be back with fabric stuff soon. We are preparing for my parents visit that begins on Monday - yikes!! I'm emptying my sewing room. Literally emptying it. They are staying for a long time and they need a room with a bed and a door (not their usual pull-out couch in our family room). It's a slow process but I work best under pressure. Sunday may be an extremely long day. And night.

In other news we are having an utterly glorious September here in Vancouver. It has been 25 C or warmer every day this month. But don't worry, the minute my parents land from Toronto it'll start raining and won't stop until the day they leave.  That's just what happens and I can't do anything about it...so if you're local, enjoy it while you can!

You have been busy. I was picturing you emptying your sewing room and thought of my own sewing room. YIKES! What a gal! Enjoy your parents' visit. You are already a good hostess to prepare your room so carefully.

I love Bret & Jemaine! I saw Feel Inside (and stuff like that) a couple weeks ago and loved it, thanks for the reminder to watch it again! Love the girl who drank bubble mixture because she wanted to turn into a bubble! My favourite lyric has to be, "Kids needs us to come together. We can make them better, we can get them some feta!"

Good luck cleaning out your sewing room! Did you take any before photos?

I hope you have a nice visit with your parents and the sunshine holds for you.

I empathize on the sewing room empty out... how painful. My guest/sewing rm are the same so sewing stops with company at our house too...just not all the moving. (Though when my sister comes I have been known to keep sewing while she sleeps!)

Nooooo not rain!! Although my lawn sure is brown!!
Empting your sewing room will be a good thing in the long run. When everything goes back you will know exactly where it is...and everything will be clean and tidy and you will find things that you didn't even know you owned!! It's like going out and buy new fabric and gadgets! You might even want to paint when your parents leave...ok...I may be pushing it!! haha
Enjoy! It's all good!

Love Germaine and Brett ~ what a great video. Thanks for sharing it.
Have a great time with with your parents.
It's been beautiful here in Portland too ~ the last few days have been cloudy in the morning but really wonderfully warm afternoons. I have to say I'm really looking forward to the colder weather ~ sock and sweater time!

While I am sure your weather forecast is at least as reliable as the ones on TV I am praying for nice weather straight through to Thanksgiving pleaseandthankyou! I hope for your sake that the clearing out and re-organization of your sewing studio takes less time that it has for mine. Our fellow stitch ladies were shocked at the sheer volume of stuff in my hall waiting to be re-integrated. Just a little embarassing :0]

Well first off The FOTC rock. Lo and I got hooked on their show a couple years ago and watched everything we could get our hands on of theirs. I have a wee bit of a crush on Jemaine actually. Don't tell the hubs. Their stand-up is AWESOME.

But this? OMG. THANK YOU Krista. Robbers, crystals, the Queen, better/feta, all in one song for kids. It's bloody fantastic. I will send a link over to the Lo ASAP.
