Superbowl Sewing

Because, really, once the guacamole and chips are gone, what else are you going to do during the Superbowl? I did watch the half time show and Madonna was fab (lots of disagreement over lip-synching potential here). I don't care how Kabbalah'd she is. No one can do those aerobics, gyrate, run around and manage to sing like that. Can they?  We were loving it that slack-line dude Andy Lewis was the star of the show, complete with toga. Check out his moves.  Let's just say he's entirely suited to his hairdo.

Ok, the sewing.  I wanted to make a little gift for a friend who's hosting 5 of us on retreat this coming weekend. I had such a good time making Kristie's armrest pin cushion from Amy's tutorial that I thought I'd make another. While choosing fabrics, I had a little moment of joy when I realized that I LOVE my stash. Truly.

I started out with the sweet Japanese owl print (a fav motif of my gracious host) and went from there. This time I appliqued a patch of wool to the pin cushion for sewing needles, which have a habit of disappearing into pin cushions. I put my needles through the wool (in and out) so they lie horizontally, instead of sticking them straight in.

For me the second best part of Superbowl ExLivEE (as Ellen calls it - hilarious) was that my friend Andrea was the big winner of her NFL pool and she's a true Giants fan, making it all the more sweet that her wallet is now stuffed with wads of cash!

Mark and I discussed this too...I can't believe that she sang through all of that. Regardless, she was pretty impressive! I love your second pincushion!

I love your armrest pincushion. So cute!

Madonna....her old songs (seriously I was listening to Madonna in secret at the neighbours when I was a kid, less than 10yrs old, she must be in her 50's!!), I still remembered all the words. My hubby was shocked! hehe

Oooooooh our hostess is going to LOVE this!!! I was going to suggest that Andrea buy us dinner now that she has hit the big time with her win. HAHAHA!!! Genius move adding the wool for needles. You're so clever :0)

your armrest pincushion is adorable! I like the sections you've sewn in--so handy for grabbing the handles on scissors.

Is it weird that I only watched the football game, and we forwarded all the way through the half time show? (we tivo'd the game since we were in Girdwood skiing.) For some reason I'm never interested in the half time theatrics, or Madonna.

I like that addition of the wool on the pincushion! Smart lady! It looks fantastic.

That bit of wool felt is a brilliant idea, thank you. And you sure get to retreat a lot, I hope you have fun.

I love your version of the armrest pincushion, the pockets look more easily accessable. And of course - yummy fabrics!

Well I love this version of the armrest pincushion too. Cool that you can do that and watch tv at the same time. I suck at crafty multi-tasking.

What a great idea, the armrest pincushion. Maybe that would keep less pins out of the carpet...
Yours looks great.
