Give Away Just for YOU!

The whirlwind of an incredibly exciting weekend has just settled and now I'm alone in my quiet house trying to get a grip on all that happened! More on that later this week, but for now, as promised a special giveaway for all of you that hang here with me!

I'd like to thank my trusty pals over there in the "Follower" gang by offering you all a chance to win one of two publications of eye candy.

Feb. giveaway (1)

Jean Wells' incredibly inspiring book "Intuitive Color & Design" is a must-have for anyone wanting to explore quilting with solids, interpret nature and man-made patterns in cloth, or just try free-piecing.

Jean wells book

I have read this book (well, not this exact copy - I bought this brand new one for you!) a couple of times and always discover new ideas. I was lucky to visit Jean's store two summers ago when a group of us drove down to Sisters, Oregon for their famous outdoor show. The cover quilt was hanging above the big stone fireplace in the store, and it is stunning!

Jean Wells book

Seeing quilts like the one above almost makes me want to get over my fear of working with green and try harder to love all colours equally (except you, evil brown, you would require an intervention).

Also up for grabs is the gorgeous new "The Art of Quilts" postcard collection published by C&T. I love postcards (so I bought two of these books, one for me and one for you!). Whenever we travel and visit museums and galleries, I raid the gift shop for post cards of my favourite works. They are inexpensive souvenirs and usually the photos are way better than the ones you can snap in the galleries (if photography is even allowed!).

Coastal Strata by Gloria Loughman, 2010
"Coastal Strata" by Gloria Loughman

This collection features quilts by many of my favourite art quilters: Jane Sassaman, Ruth B. McDowell, Gloria Loughman and Katie Pasquini Masopust.

If you would like to add one of these to your inspiration collection, please leave one comment for one entry per person. First name chosen by the Random Number Generator will have their choice: book or postcards. Please let me know in your comment what your choice is in case you are lucky winner #1!! I'll leave comments open for a week, until Monday, March 7 at 8:00 p.m. PST. Good luck (and yes, of course I'll ship worldwide!).

Thank you all for checking in with me regularly here at Poppyprint. This blog has fulfilled everything I wanted it to with respect to keeping me motivated and providing a forum to record my creative work, but it has far exceeded my expectations for growing my circle of amazing friends and acquaintances worldwide! I have all 365 of you to thank for that. Wow.

  7. Glad you had a great weekend!

Being a geologist, it might interest you to know that my state, Arkansas, experienced a 4.7-magnitude earthquake last night around 11 p.m. We had been warned that thunderstorms with possible tornadoes would be moving through during the night. As I had just fallen asleep, the deep rumble and shaking made me believe that a tornado was indeed bearing down on my home! I ran to my living room and discovered that my Amazon parrot had been frightened by the unusual occurrence. He was fluttering his wings. I spoke to him and tried to calm him. I am sure he could sense that I was anything but calm myself!

After I returned to bed, I told my husband that we must have experienced an earthquake. My suspicions were confirmed this morning. What a frightening experience. I thought about the people of Haiti and Christchurch. If such a mild quake can be so frightening, a devastating quake must be horrifying. Makes us realize that we live on a dynamic planet that's constantly shifting and adjusting itself.

Anyway, what a tremendous giveaway! I'd be inclined to choose the postcard book. The photo of Ruth McDowell's masterpiece beckons to me!

    Thanks,

    Anne

  41. HI Krista,
I am drooling over the idea of visiting Sisters Oregon during the Sister's show. I have had the good fortune of seeing both Gloria Loughman and Ruth McDowell speak. Gloria came and spoke at a guild meeting and Ruth came to Calgary to do a workshop. It is interesting to hear them speak about their process. Both are interesting speakers who enjoy sharing their thoughts about quilting.
I have long admired Jean Wells work and have some of her earlier books that use her daughter Valori's photographs- Through the garden gate is one of my first quilt books and a favorite one.
Thanks for hosting such a nice giveaway. Your winners are going to love your gifts.
    Warmest regards,
    Anna

  47. WOW that first book looks like a real stunner - how could you bear to part with something as inspirational as this - that green quilt - oh I could just see this in some yummy hand dyes. And the thread art in those flowers that bring them to life - amazing.
Thank you for such a generous giveaway - whoever wins either of these beauties will be pleased. Thanks for sharing your work with us all here on line - you yourself inspire us.

  48. Hi Krista, Thanks for this opportunity to win Jean Wells new book. I think art quilts are my great inspiration, & using color for the end result I desire is something I am studying now. I have just recently started to "get" what all those concepts really mean like Tint, Shade, etc. I would love her book. My mother is an accomplished painter, but that eludes me. I found you from Leah Day's 365 days of FMQ. I also Love Gloria Loughman's quilts, saw some real beauties @ the Pacific Intnl Quilt Fest in Calif in Oct. I am a new follower too.

  56. RFabulous giveaway! Thanks for the chance!

  57. I got a real kick out of your statement about getting over your "fear of working with green" and trying "harder to love all colours equally."
I have so much blue in my stash it is not funny. I have finally worked green in there a little. Brown is easier for me, and not so evil - except that I can only use ONE brown in a quilt unless it is from the same collection and really matches. The tone in a brown can go in any direction. Drives me crazy.

Intuitive color and design sounds like a book I would turn to again and again.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Thanks for the giveaway! I've had that book on my Amazon Wish List for over a year :)
