Surf's Up!

In my excitement to share the Portland, Seattle, Vancouver MQG meet-up with you the minute I got home last month, I completely forgot to share some pictures from our little Oregon coast trip!

Haystack Rock and Cannon Beach, OR

Our son went to camp in Washington State with some school buddies, so the rest of the family decided to keep driving south and spend a few days somewhere new for us. The destination was completely by accident. The trip was fairly last minute and most affordable accommodation in Cannon Beach was booked; lucky us! We ended up another 25 minutes down the coast in Manzanita in a kitchy 1950's motel that was just perfect.

Cannon Beach, OR
The first time in my life I've been to a public beach where people take off their shoes and leave them 'at the door'. Including several brand new pairs of TOMs! What?

Everyone was super welcoming and friendly, especially Violet and Monica who both took a very long morning coffee break with me which was so lovely! I absolutely can't wait to return!

  2. The shoes at the door... We noticed it too. And I did the same thing. I think it is because the sand is so soft and the water is so beautiful that I was just compelled to remove my shoes and run towards the water. It's also very difficult to walk in the sand with shoes. :-)

  11. What a nice vacation. We took our grandson there last month too. We had lots of beach time with our home base at Cannon Beach. Hug Point, Indian Beach and drives to anywhere the car would stop. Lots of memories for us and one you will enjoy looking back on too! Great fun. It is amazing what they will leave on the beach!

  24. I have no idea what a marshmallow shooter is (the quality control dude who stands by the conveyor belt in the factory pulling out the non-conforming sweets?), but they sound interesting.
The photos are beautiful Krista - you need to increase their size on your blog so we can enjoy more.

  32. My son used to live in Manzanita and we would stop there when on the road RVing. Nehelem State Park is right there - fabulous place - even has facilities for traveling with horses and access to the beach. Oregon has the most beautiful state parks of any of the states we visited.
