Passionate Dyes - a Giveaway!

It's Birthday Month Giveaway #3!
ETA: Comments are now closed, thanks for entering!!

When my local friends Susan and Martha announced that their amazing hand-dyed fabrics were now available to purchase from their very own online store, I immediately wanted to share their excitement with all of you. When these gals take their fabric on the road to quilt show merchant malls, their booth is full with gasping admirers. These women are definitely passionate about dying fabric, about colour, quilting, and art. To celebrate their online opening, Passionate Dyes will give a $30 gift certificate redeemable for hand-dyed yardage from www.passionatedyes.com to one lucky Poppyprint reader!!

Have you ever sewn with hand dyes? The colour depth is unlike anything achieved with commercial printing, and no two pieces are exactly alike. Susan and Martha have trained in numerous dying methods, including shibori resist, wrapping and colour mixing. The variety of colours and patterns achieved in their workshop is incredible....and I just love that you can shop their website in colour categories like Earth, Coloured Glass, Luminous and Stone. I think my favourite category is Shibori (resist techniques). Look at these beauties!

Their fabrics cover the complete colour spectrum but have an added feature; many pieces evoke landscapes, sea beds, trees, forest floor and flower gardens. Texture is created by folding, pleating, scrunching and shibori resist techniques. A passionately dyed fabric will add immense interest to your next project!

You'll notice that each piece of fabric is priced by it's size and base fabric (either Hoffman PFD -prepared for dying, Pimatex or Kona cotton)

Both Susan and Martha are expert quilters. I've had the pleasure of seeing many of their beautiful quilts first hand. Some of these art works are available in the webstore as well. A quick trip through their quilt gallery will provide plenty of inspiration for your own hand-dyed fabric project!

  14. right now I am into anything that looks like nature, ie blues (for rivers, lakes and skies), greens, (for grass and trees), and browns (for trunks of trees and the ground)
I recently made a quilt with these colors called "I'm trying to be like Jesus" with Jesus and John the Baptist at His baptism.

I had a terrible time finding anything that looked like sky color in my local quilt shop. These blues would have been JUST THE TICKET.

  46. Go birthday month! I LOVE to work with gray. It looks so good with other colors and it hides stains a little better than white. When you have two large dogs that think they are lap dogs you have to consider how much damage the quilt can take without it showing.

  47. Hmmmm... how do you pick a favorite? I know I have the most blue in my stash, but I think what I love is the interaction between colors. Love the hand dyed fabric!

  59. Hi Krista

I really liked the stone colours, perhaps because we have been spending as much time at the beach as possible lately and with this grey weather-- the colours of the stones are really clear, not washed out by the sun...although a little sun would be lovely. Thanks for this fun opportunity! L3
