I took two lengths of the cotton print and sewed a hunk of natural linen/cotton blend in between them with 3/8" seam allowance. Not really wanting a quilt on the table, I chose to sew the whole works right sides together with a brushed cotton (sort of like a one-sided flannel). I turned it right sides out, topstitched the edges and each seam and then got busy tracing 3 different sized lids onto the linen. I embroidered a running stitch with 3 strands of burgundy, ivory and green DMC floss.
Sorta like a quickie version of my Crop Circles Table runner tutorial over there on
in my sidebar.
Seriously, you can whip one of these up in an afternoon.
I'm excited to head over town to the Vancouver Modern Quilt Guild meeting tonight. We'll be having a handmade ornament exchange and goodies, plus members can sign up for the day retreat I'm running in February. It's going to be a great evening!
I just love that fabric! I hadn't seen it before. I am glad you went ahead and used it. I think it is best on a simple project because it really shows it off! Very nice!
ReplyDeleteOhhh Krista...gorgeous!! Love the fabric and the circles!! I immediately went to your tutorial to see what thread you used. That was my dilemma yesterday...what thread to use hand quilting my tablecloth as I wanted the stitches big and I wanted them to pop. I thought of using embroidery floss but founds some DMC perle cotton that did the trick...but is slow going as I can only do one stitch at a time. Your stitching is perfect!! ♥Love♥ it!! ReplyDeleteI don't usually make New Year's resolutions, but if I did, one of them for 2011 would be to use the fabric I have on my shelf. Like you, I tend to "save" fabrics (for a rainy day? for the perfect project? Who knows...).
It turned out beautifully Krista. As always your stitching takes the project up into the FABULOUS category! One day I will figure out how to get my stitches as even as you do :0)
