My Go-To Gift

I just love Rae's buttercup bag pattern. I've made so many as gifts, donations for fundraisers and even 2 for myself. A friend celebrated a milestone birthday today, so I whipped up another one for her yesterday afternoon.

Buttercup bag for Jen

It is made with Joel Dewberry (Ginseng) home-dec weight fabric leftover from making this bag. The interior is Amy Butler's Nigella print, also home-dec.

I knew last time I made it, I wanted a slightly longer strap, but after completing the bag I realized it was too long. Recalling a sweet button I bought at the textile market in Amsterdam a couple of years ago, I came up with a very simple strap-shortening-solution that almost looks like I did it on purpose.

It's snowing like crazy. Should be an interesting soccer practice for D tonight. I bet all of those 12 year old girls will be too busy trying to catch snowflakes on their tongues to pay any attention to their coaches! I know that's what I'd be doing.

  1. Sweet bag Krista, way to use up the overabundant fabric from your "OMG you made that?!" bag. :0)
Snow has stopped here so am crossing my fingers that it is warming up!!!!

  2. Gorgeous bag! I love that strap shortening trick, I used it last year on a bag I made my daughter but my folds were a bit bigger, it reminded me of butterfly wings so I called it her butterfly bag and she never knew the reason behind it :)

  8. Oh how i wish I could be one of you guys who can write whip up and bag in the same sentence without being a joke. The bag is wonderful, I love the fabric and the little folded rosette on the strap!

  13. I need to make one of these. I really do love the pattern, and I love that with the right fabric it doesn't look like a something a "quilter" made. (You know what i mean by that right... )

PS- I love the button/bow on the strap. You should do that on purpose more often.
